Coker Drops Sunday Twinbill  to No.16/18 Mount Olive

Mount Olive, N.C.- The Coker University Baseball team dropped their Sunday doubleheader to No. 16/18 University of Mount Olive by finals of 14-0 and 6-4 Sunday (Feb. 21) on the road. 

 

Game One

 

Mount Olive got things started with three runs in the first inning. 

 

Matt Hyatt tossed three scoreless frames over 4.1 innings of work for Coker.

 

The Trojans would plate two in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. 

 

Mount Olive would continue their offensive surge by bringing in five runs in the sixth to make the game 10-0 in favor of the Trojans. 

In the bottom of the seventh Mount Olive would score three more to bring the score to 13-0. The Trojans would plate one more in the bottom of the eighth to win game one 14-0. 

 

Game Two



Coker would strike first in the top of the third as Cory Listing would single to right-center and later score on Reilly Hall's RBI single to second. 

 

Coker would plate a run in the top of the fourth when shortstop Phill Griffor would score off a passed ball to give the Cobras a 2-0 lead. 

 

The Trojans would plate their first run off of a walk in the bottom of the fourth, but Coker would get a lead-saving bases-loaded 4-6-3 double play to end the inning to keep the 2-1 lead. 

 

Mount Olive would plate the tying run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 2-2. The Trojans offense would surge in the sixth, adding three runs to take the 5-2 lead. They would plate one run in the seventh to make it 6-2. 

 

Coker would score again in the eighth as Bryan Castillo would reach on an infield single and later score off of a Mount Olive wild pitch to bring the score to 6-3. 

 

The Cobras would try and force a comeback in the ninth with Phil Griffor's single up the middle and would later score off of Castillo's RBI double down the left-field line to bring Coker within two at 6-4. The Cobras were unable to cash in with runners on to tie the game. 

 

Senior Tanner Wofford struck out five in 3.1 innings of work allowing only two hits. Senior Aaron Mitchell pitched well in relief,  striking out three while not allowing a hit over 2.0 innings. 

 

Coker returns back to action Saturday (Feb. 27) as they play host to Anderson (S.C.) for a noon doubleheader. Video and live stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com
