Baseball to Play Clarion and Alderson Broaddus in Weekend Mini-series

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College baseball program will be back at home this weekend for a mini-series tilt with Clarion University and Alderson Broaddus University. Coker will take on Clarion on Friday (Feb. 16) in a single game slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch, and will play Alderson Broaddus in two, seven-inning games on Sunday (Feb. 18) at 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Each game will be played on Tom J. New Field at Dave Schmotzer Stadium.

Coker (5-1) took on Urbana University last weekend (Feb. 9-10) and swept the four-game series from the Blue Knights, setting the tone offensively.

The Cobras took game one by a score of 2-1, where Michael DeVecchio (2-0, 0.00) secured his second win in his second start on the season. DeVecchio has thrown 14.0 innings, with two complete games, relenting one lone run, it was unearned, on six hits, five walks and 12 strikeouts.

Versus the Blue Knights in four games, Coker racked up 31 runs on the weekend, hitting .448 at the plate with 10 extra base hits (five doubles, three triples, two home runs). One of the bigger hits on the weekend was Bryson Conner's grand slam in game four, pulling Coker within two runs of Urbana in the bottom of the fifth inning. In the sixth, Brooks Estrada roped a solo-shot to left field, and after a handful of walks, Lake Lybrand brought in the tying and go-ahead runs on a single to give the Cobras a 9-8 lead. Griffin Hollifield entered and picked up his first save on the season in his first opportunity.

Estrada leads Coker in hitting, holding a .467 / .579 / .800 slash line through six games played. The senior outfielder has seven hits in 15 at bats, with two doubles, a home run, four RBI, two runs scored and has drawn four walks.

Coker will face Clarion on Friday (Feb. 16) at 1:00 p.m. in a single, nine-inning game, and Alderson Broaddus on Sunday (Feb. 18) at 12:00 p.m. & 3:00 p.m. for two, seven-inning games. Live stream video and live-stats for the games can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.
