Blechle and Witzel Lead Coker to 5-3 Win over North Greenville

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Freshman Justine Blechle and senior Tyler Witzel were the driving forces behind Coker's 5-3 win over North Greenville University in Conference Carolinas baseball action on Friday (Marc. 29) afternoon. The win moves Coker to 9-7 in league play and 20-11 overall. 

Witzel (6-3) got off to a bit of a rocky start, allowing two runs in the first inning, but he settled down, scattering eight hits over six innings with three strikeouts to pick up the win. 

Blechle drove in three of the Cobras' five runs, thanks to a three-run triple that he belted down the right field line in the bottom of the second. Coker went on to score four runs in the bottom half of the inning, adding an insurance run in the eighth.

Zach Loraine (10) added to nation leading save total. He earned his tenth save of the season, going two innings, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts.

Keith Wolf was the only Cobra with multiple hits at the plate, while Brinley Griffin drove in a run. Also picking up hits were Loraine, Ernie Kirkwood, T.J. Giczkowski, Fico Kondla, Frank Suarez and Shea Bell.

The Cobras and the Crusaders will complete their three-game series with a double-header on Saturday (Mar. 30) starting at noon at Coker's Tom J. New Field.
