No. 4 Mount Olive Takes Two from Coker

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Coker Cobras dropped the two Conference Carolinas baseball games they played on Saturday (Mar. 23) against No. 4 Mount Olive, losing game one, 4-0, and falling in game two, 9-6. With the losses, Coker drops to 18-11 overall and 8-7 in league play.

In game one, Dan Meyer (2-3) went the distance on the mound allowing four runs, while scattering eight hits over six innings of work with a strikeout.

Frank Suarez and Ernie Kirkwood combined for four of Coker's five hits at the plate.

In the second game of the day, Mount Olive jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the second inning. The Cobras cut the lead to just one with four runs in the fifth and another one in the top of the sixth. The Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and another in the seventh, taking a three-run lead and the eventual win, 9-6.

Alex Hernandez (3-2) took the loss, allowing six runs on four hits in six innings of work.

Kirkwood collected two more hits including a triple with an RBI to lead the Cobras in game two, while Keith Wolf had two hits with an RBI. Justin Blechle and Shea Bell each drove in runs as well, while T.J. Giczkowski had a double with two runs scored.

The Cobras will be back at home for their next game on Wednesday (Mar. 27) at 3 p.m. against Benedict College.
