Late Inning Rally Lifts Coker Past Claflin

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Coker baseball team picked up a 6-3 non-conference win over Claflin University on Wednesday (Mar. 6). With the win the Cobras earned a season sweep of the Panthers and improved to 12-6 overall.

Coker broke up a 3-3 tie with a run in the eighth inning and then added a pair of insurance runs in the ninth to take home the 6-3 victory.

Russ White (1-0) picked up the win for the Cobras, tossing a third of an inning of scoreless baseball. Zach Loraine (5) earned his fifth save of the season, throwing two innings in relief with two strikeouts. 

Chase Spivey was 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored, while Fico Kondla was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Keith Wolf also had a pair of hits and Brinley Griffin had a double with an RBI. T.J. Giczkowski, Tony Nolan and Kyle Gallman each drove in a run for the Cobras as well.

Coker will return to the field this weekend for a three-game Conference Carolinas series at King University. The Cobras and the Tornado will play a double-header on Saturday (Mar. 9) and a single game on Sunday (Mar. 10). First pitch is scheduled for noon on both days.
