Griffin Leads Coker Past Claflin

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Brinley Griffin became the Coker baseball team's career RBI leader, as he drove in two runs during Coker's 7-1 victory over Claflin University on Wednesday (Feb. 20). The win improves the Cobras to 7-3.

Griffin's two-run single in third inning, gave him 10 RBIs on the year and moved him past Trey Lynch (class of 2010) on the career RBI list with 85.

The Cobras erased a first inning hiccup by scoring three runs in the third, two in the sixth and another two in the eighth.

Griffin finished the day 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Fico Kondla was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Frank Suarez also drove in two runs and T.J. Giczkowski was 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored.

Tyler Witzel (1-0) earned the win on the mound. He went two innings allowing just two hits with a strikeout. The Cobras had seven pitchers throw in the game, allowing just one run on seven hits with seven strikeouts as a staff.

Coker returns to the diamond this weekend for a three-game series against Conference Carolinas foe Barton College. The Cobras and the Bulldogs will take the field for a single game on Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a double-header on Saturday starting at noon. All three-games will be played at Coker's Tom J. New Field.
