Joseph Kammerer was hired as Coker University’s new Strength and Conditioning Coach on July 7, 2021. 

Kammerer comes to Coker from Gannon University, where he was the Strength Coach for the men’s basketball program. Kammerer oversaw all aspects of strength and conditioning as well as nutrition for the Knights men’s basketball program. While working at Gannon, he was also an Assistant Strength Coach at Erie Sports Now Fitness, working in design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for athletes ranging from youth to professional. 

Before Gannon, Kammerer was a Graduate Assistant Strength Coach at Mercyhurst University, where he oversaw the strength and conditioning program design and implementation for 12 athletics programs. He primarily worked with men’s and women’s rowing, soccer, tennis, golf water polo, volleyball and softball.

Prior to arriving in Erie, he was a Volunteer Assistant Strength Coach at Division I Cal State Fullerton and also at Cal Poly Pomona.

Kammerer is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and also holds a USA Weightlifting Level I Certification. He also participated in the continuing education programs by ALTIS and EXOS, participated in a Coaches vs. COVID college basketball roundtable and attended the High Performance Basketball Symposium in 2020.

Kammerer played Division I basketball at the University of Idaho from 2009-14, where he was the recipient of the Team Inspirational, Leader and Scholar Awards. He was also a Team Captain in 2013-14. Academically, he was a Western Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference selection (2012-14) and also a University of Idaho Scholar Athlete (2011-14).

Kammerer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and Digital Media from the University of Idaho, along with a Master’s in Kinesiology from California State University and a Master’s Certificate in Organizational Leadership from Mercyhurst University.

He lives with his wife Megan, who is an emergency medicine resident physician. The couple has two daughters, Stevie and Sailor.
