Cobras Defeat the Fleet

DUE WEST, S.C.- The Cobra women's volleyball team took on the Flying Fleet of Erskine College at the Fleet Classic Tournament and came out with a 3-1 win. The Navy and Gold are now 4-2 on the season.

Set one saw the Cobras edge out the Fleet by two points to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Annie Mansfield led the offensive attack with four kills, followed by Chloe Attram, Taylor du Bray, Alexis Berles, and Madison Bingle, each with two. Defensively, du Bray had 10 digs and Kara Overholt finished the set with eight.

In set two, Coker dropped the set in a hard-fought 26-24 battle. Attram earned four kills on six attacks, while Christen Bragg swung three times, recording a kill twice.

Hitting .333 percent in the third set, the Cobras went on a tear. Attram came up big with six kills on eight attempts, while du Bray laid down three kills on seven attacks. Missy Reid gathered up five digs in the set. Erskine only hit .091 percent.

The finishing touch was the fourth set, in which the Flying Fleet managed a hitting percentage of -.067. Berles ended with two kills on three attacks.

Offensively, Attram had an impressive night, totaling 14 kills with a .417 hitting percentage. Bingle added 10 kills of her own and Bragg assisted on 40 plays. Berles rolled with three service aces and the team finished with seven total. On the defensive end, du Bray tallied 18 digs and Overholt controlled 15. Berles also ended with three block assists on the night. Collectively, the Cobras had 49 kills, 44 assists, 72 digs, and five total blocks.

Coker women's volleyball returns to the court on Saturday (Sept. 9) for day two of the Fleet Classic Tournament. The Cobras will play a pair of matches against King (Tenn.) and Shorter at 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., respectively.
