Cobras Defeat Eagles to Complete Season Sweep

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Coker College women's volleyball team defeated Carson-Newman 3-1 Friday (Oct. 28) evening to complete the season sweep over the Eagles.

The Cobras were tested early in the match as they prevailed in a tight 28-26 first set. Four consecutive points at the beginning of the first set gave Coker breathing room to begin play. The four-point scoring streak was highlighted with two kills from Regan Kennen and a kill by Christen Bragg.

The Eagles chipped away at the Cobras lead and eventually tied the score at 26-26. Next, Madison Bingle and Sierry Harvey delivered the final two points off of clutch kills for the early match advantage.

Carson-Newman took the second set, but the Navy and Gold responded by downing the Eagles in the third set by a 25-22 score. Carson-Newman jumped out to a comfortable 11-3 lead, but the Cobras battled back for a 24-22 lead. Christen Bragg delivered the final kill of the frame for the third set victory.

In the fourth and final set of the match, the Cobras came away with a 25-20 victory. Leading 5-4, Coker strung together four-straight points from two service aces by Taylor du Bray and two attack errors committed by Carson-Newman.

Coker kept their distance from Carson-Newman until Christen Bragg tallied the deciding point from a kill for the second consecutive set.

Christen Bragg and Madison Bingle led the Cobras offensively with 12 kills each. On the defensive side of the ball, Kara Overholt collected a team-high 22 digs and Sierra Harvey accumulated a career-high seven total blocks.

Coker will have little time off as they travel to Lincoln Memorial tomorrow (Oct. 28) afternoon to take on the Railsplitters at 2 p.m.
