Cobras Victorious Over Eagles in Thriller

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's volleyball team came out victorious in a thrilling match by a 3-2 score over the visiting Carson-Newman University Eagles Friday (Sept. 23) evening.

The first two sets had both squads winning by only three points or less. Coker grabbed the early match lead with a tight 25-23 victory. The Cobras held a slim 24-23 advantage during the first set of play, when an attack error committed by the Eagles lifted Coker to the win.

Carson-Newman responded in the second set by edging Coker 25-22 for a 1-1 match score. Next, Coker went on to take the third set with a solid 25-19 victory. The Eagles attempted to make a comeback during the third set and trailed Coker 23-20.

However, the Cobras silenced the comeback attempt by notching the final three points of the set with kills from Regan Kennen and Megan Hardy.

After a heartbreaking 26-24 defeat in the fourth set, the Cobras countered by capturing the fifth set with a 15-12 final score and the 3-2 match victory. Coker led Carson-Newman 14-12 in another back and forth set when Megan Hardy sealed the victory with an electrifying kill.

Christen Bragg led the Cobras offensively with 14 kills and 19 assists. Defensively, Coker received strong performances from Kara Overholt (38 digs) and Megan Hardy (four total blocks).

The Cobras will have little time off, as they take on Lincoln Memorial tomorrow (Sept. 24) afternoon at 2 p.m.
