CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coker College women's volleyball team dropped a tight South Atlantic Conference contest 3-2 to the Queens University Royals on Saturday (Sept. 17) afternoon.

Queens jumped on the Cobras early in the match by controlling the first set of play with a 25-14 final. Coker responded in the second set by forcing Queens to use a timeout and rallied from an early deficit to only trail 14-13.

The Cobras kept chipping away at the Royals lead and used a service ace from Christen Bragg to jump out to a 21-19 lead. Both squads exchanged scores until two straight kills from Bethany Prochnow sealed the 26-24 second set victory.

Coker used another rally in the beginning of the third set to propel themselves to a 25-18 victory. Trailing 4-3, the Cobras notched six-straight points to gain an 8-4 lead. Two kills from Bethany Prochnow and two kills by Madison Bingle highlighted the six-point scoring streak.

The Cobras maintained their lead during the third set and Bethany Prochnow added another kill for the set-winning point. The Royals went on to win the fourth set 25-18 and fifth set 15-7 for the 3-2 match victory.

Bethany Prochnow tied her season high mark for kills with 15 during the match. On the defensive end, Kara Overholt had an impressive showing collecting 24 digs.

The Cobras will be back in action when they travel to Catawba on Tuesday (Sept. 20) for a 6 p.m. match.
