Cobras Finish 2-0 In Day One of Running Eagle Classic

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Coker College women's volleyball team finished 2-0 during the first day of the Running Eagle classic by sweeping Columbia College 3-0 (25-17, 25-7, 25-18) and Reinhardt University 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-23).

In their match against Columbia, each team was notched at three apiece when the Cobras went on a six point scoring streak to pull ahead of Columbia 9-4. Two kills from Bethany Prochnow and a kill by Megan Hardy highlighted the six consecutive points. The Cobras would hold their lead for the 25-17 first set victory. 

The second set witnessed the Cobras win in dominant fashion with a 25-8 final. Coker tallied 11 straight points towards the beginning of the set to jumpstart their impressive second set. Madison Bingle accumulated three kills during the scoring streak.

The third and final set of the match was the most competitive with the Cobra's notching a 24-18 victory. Leading 24-18, Christen Bragg sealed the third set win with a kill. 

The duo of Madison Bingle and Greysen Newberry led the way offensively with eight kills each. In addition, Christen Bragg dished out 21 assists.

In their second match of the day, the Cobras swept Reinhardt, but had to battle to win all three sets. Both teams were notched up at 23 late in first set when a kill from Madison Bingle and Alexis Berles gave Coker an early 1-0 lead.

Once again, the Cobras finished strong down the stretch of the second set by tallying the final four points for the 25-19 victory. The trio of Greysen Newberry, Alexis Berles, and Madison Bingle added the final four kills.

Coker and Reinhardt traded blows in the third set until the Cobras held a narrow 24-23 advantage. Next, Reinhardt committed an attack error and the Cobras earned the sweep for their second win of the day.

Greysen Newberry and Megan Hardy led the offensive attack with nine kills each. Missy Reid was an essential piece to Coker's defense collecting 20 digs in the match.

The Cobras will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Life University at 1 p.m. and Brenau University at 5 p.m. to cap off the Running Eagle Classic.
