Coker Falls Short Against #14 Wingate

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker women's volleyball team fought hard, but lost a tough match to nationally ranked No. 14 Wingate University, 3-0 on Tuesday (Oct. 1) night. 

After dropping the first two sets 25-5 and 25-15, the Cobras gave the Bulldogs a run for their money in the third set. In the third set the Cobras held as much as 17-10 advantage on the Bulldogs, but five unanswered points brought Wingate right back in the match. After exchanging a few more points the score stood deadlocked at 19. The Bulldogs turned up the intensity and closed out the set and the match, 25-21.

Taylor Willis led the attack for the Cobras with seven kills and four digs, while Hannah Vadakin and Brittney Pink had four kills each. Amanda Harris added three kills and a match high 11 digs, and Mindy Morris had eight digs. Samantha Celek also handed out 12 assists.

The Cobras will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 4) at home against Lenoir-Rhyne. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
