Cobra Women's Volleyball Goes 1-2 in Opening Day at Battle of the Springs Tournament

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The Coker College women's volleyball team opened its 2013 season with three matches at the Emmanuel College Battle at the Springs on Friday (Sept. 6). The Cobras went 1-2 on the day.

In their opening match of the tournament the Cobras swept Northwood College 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-22).  Senior Taylor Willis led the attack with 10 kills and four aces, while junior Cassandra Nagel knocked down eight kills with a pair of aces. Freshmen Brittany Pink and Amanda Harris added six and five kills respectively, and junior setter Samantha Celek handed out 31 assists. Senior libero Mindy Morris was the team's dig leader with 20.

Match number two, pitted Coker against the host Emmanuel College. The Cobras lost the match 3-0 (19-25, 23-25, 21-25).

The Cobras third and final match of the day was against Milligan College. Coker lost the match 3-0 (20-25, 24-26, 22-25). Timera Arnold, Celia Dugan and Nagel paced the Cobras with six kills each, while Celek had 28 assists.

Coker returns to the court for its final two matches of the Battle at the Springs on Saturday (Sept. 7). The Cobras will take on Paine College at 9 a.m., followed by a match against Point College at 1 p.m.
