Queens Tops Coker, 3-0

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker volleyball team closed out their 2011 season with a 3-0 loss to Queens University of Charlotte at home on Saturday afternoon. The Cobras lost in straight sets with scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-11.

The loss drops Coker to 9-19 overall and 6-11 in Conference Carolinas play, while Queens improves to 21-8 and 15-2 in conference.

The Cobras had a tough time getting any offensive rhythm going in the match and Queens had eight players with at least one kill.

Taylor Willis (Zephyrhills, Fla.) and Jordan Arnsmeyer (Sumter, S.C.) had six kills each to lead the Cobras. Samantha Celek (Charleston, S.C.) had 19 assists and Brittany Bass (Bethune, S.C.) had 13 digs.

Keri Kemp (Lake Mary, Fla.) was the kill leader for the Royals with nine, while Anna Gibbs (Hickory, N.C.) followed closely with eight kills. Avery Moore (Arlington, Texas) and Ashlyn Dibrell (Arlington, Texas) split the setting duties perfectly as each had 17 assists. Just one Queens player reached double figure digs, Brittany Barren (Ham Lake, Minn.) had 10.

The Cobras were unable to advance to the Conference Carolinas tournament, falling just short with a fifth place finish in the east division.
