Bulldogs Defeat Cobras 3-1

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – A trio of Cobras broke the 10 kill mark, but Coker could not overcome the offensive attack from Barton, as the Bulldogs took the Conference Carolinas match 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Barton picked up wins in sets one, two and four with scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-16. Coker earned the win in the third set, 25-19.

Sophomore Taylor Willis (Zephyrhills, Fla.) had 13 kills, sophomore Hannah Vadakin (Centennial, Colo.) ended the match with 11 kills and junior April Griggs (Bishopville, S.C.) each had 10 kills for the Cobras. Four players had double digit digs, with freshman Anna Schwark (Coaldale, Alberta) leading the way with 24 digs followed by junior Brittany Bass (Bethune, S.C.) with 17 and sophomores Katie McElveen (Hartsville, S.C.) and Kelly Stine ((Fort Collins, Colo.) with 15 and 10 respectively. Stine added 23 assists to the match and freshman Samantha Celek (Charleston, S.C.) handed out 24 assists.

Freshman Melissa Cochran (Knightdale, N.C.) was a force to be reckoned with for Barton as she tallied 13 kills.  Both freshmen Amanda Grandy (Rolesville, N.C.) and Meka Hoover (Seagrove, N.C.) had 15 digs for the Bulldogs.

Coker's record now falls to 6-12, 4-5 in conference play; Barton improves to 8-10, 4-6 in Conference Carolinas matches. 

Coker's next home match is Friday, October 28, at 7 p.m. against Lees-McRae.  The Cobras will be on the road for their next three matches, with the next being at King College on October 14. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
