Falcons Battle Back to Defeat Cobras in Five

MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Coker volleyball team was unable to come away with a win in their match against Pfeiffer University in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action on Tuesday night, falling to the Falcons 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-12). Despite 18 kills from Katie McElveen
(Hartsville, SC), the Cobras drop their third-straight dipping to 6-8, 3-2.

The Falcons advance to 6-5 overall, 3-1 in league play.

Coker miscues and exceptional play by the Falcons led to an opening set victory for Pfeiffer, putting the hosts up 1-0.

Sets two and three belonged to the Cobras as kills from McElveen and Kelly Stine (Fort Collins, CO) coupled with three Pfeiffer errors put the Cobras up 5-0 early on as they would never trail in the second set. After a tightly contested third set the Cobras held a 2-1 lead entering the fourth set.

Pfeiffer wasted little time in the fourth set took the win with relative ease forcing a fifth and final set.

In the match-deciding fifth, the Cobras kept things close, but were unable to get points down the stretch and Falcons secured their third-straight victory overall and second-straight five-setter in eastern division play.

Jordan Arnsmeyer (Sumter, SC) trailed McElveen in the hitting department with a dozen kills on the night while Celek put up 41 assists. Brittany Bass (Bethune, SC) dug up 28 balls on the night while Stine finished with 19 digs.

Coker returns to Conference Carolinas action on Saturday hosting Limestone in their 2011 Homecoming match. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium.
