Hot Streak Continues, Cobras Win 3-0 in Home Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras volleyball team continued their success on the court with a 3-0 win in their home opener Wednesday night against St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

Coker improved to 4-0 on the season, 1-0 in Conference Carolinas matches.  

Offensively sophomore Hannah Vadakin (Centennial, CO) and sophomore Taylor Willis (Zephyrhills, FL) led the way, each recording eight kills.  Sophomore Kelly Stine (Fort Collins, CO) had three service aces and 19 assists for the Cobras and classmate Katie McElveen (Hartsville, SC) led the team for the night with nine digs.  Vadakin also had three solo blocks.

St. Andrews senior Lex Cowger (Indiana Head, MD) and sophomore Ruka Akolade (Aurora, CO) shared the team high in kills with six.  Freshman Ashleigh Fritter (Midway Park, NC) had seven assists on the night.  Cowger also had two service aces.

The Cobras look to continue their success this weekend as they will play at a tournament hosted by USC-Aiken.  The next home match for Coker will be September 14, at 7 p.m. against Francis Marion.
