Hartsville, SC- In the battle between the first and third place teams in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference Volleyball standings, the first place team came out on top. Unfortunately, for Coker that means they lost, as the Cobras entered the day in third place in the CVAC, while Lees-McRae was in first. The Bobcats defeated the Cobras 3-0 with scores of 31-29, 30-28 and 30-28. The loss moves Coker to 12-10 overall, and 10-4 in the CVAC, while Lees-McRae improves to 21-7 overall, and 13-2 in the CVAC.

 

In all three games both teams battled extremely hard, with neither giving the other much room for error. The biggest lead in any game was in game one, with the Bobcats holding a five point lead. After that the biggest lead was no more than three points either way.

 

Lees-McRae’s Lacie Smith was the kill leader with 20 kills and she also had 12 digs in the match. Trisha Reese and Lauren Dickover shared the assist duties, with Reese earning 20 assists and Dickover getting 18. Dani Usedom netted 13 digs for Lees-McRae as well in the match.

 

As for the Cobras, Megan Haupt had 13 kills, while Allie Bragg had 9 kills. Tara Nelson had 30 assists in the match as well for the Cobras.

 

Upcoming matches for the Cobras include a two game home stand starting Tuesday, October 17, against Mount Olive at 6:30 p.m., followed by a match on Wednesday, October 18, versus St. Andrews also at 6:30 p.m.
