ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson’s Amanda Edwards had 20 kills and 28 digs and Leanna Willis had 17 kills and 18 digs to lead Anderson University to a 30-27, 31-33, 32-30, 30-22 CVAC victory over Coker Sunday afternoon at the Abney Center.


The loss was Coker's first in CVAC play this season. Anderson improves to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the CVAC, while Coker falls to 4-7, 3-1.


Anderson setter Jessica Pedrick contributed 51 assists, 21 digs, four aces, and two blocks to the victory. Shante' Heyward was Anderson's blocks leader with six. Beth Lawson added 10 kills and two blocks for the Lady Trojans.


The first game was tied 12 times before Anderson scored four of the last five points to take a 1-0 lead.


In the second game, Coker fought off two game points and scored the final three points of the game to tie the match at one game apiece.


In the third game, the two teams both teams had big runs. Anderson had a 10-1 run to take a 22-11 lead, but Coker bounced back with a 10-2 run to cut Anderson's lead to 24-21. After ties at 28 and 30, a kill by Lawson and a kill by Edwards clinched the game for Anderson.


In the fourth game, Anderson used a 7-0 run to take a 19-12 lead. Coker got no closer than four points the rest of the way.

 

Coker will host Barton College on Wednesday, September 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium on the campus of Coker College.
