Hartsville, SC- With two wins in the last two days, the Coker Volleyball Team has won their last three straight matches. Saturday’s win came against the visiting All-Stars of Converse College. Although Coker won the match, Converse kept the scores closer than Coker would have liked, but the Cobras won the match in three games with scores of 30-28, 30-26 and 30-28.

 

The Cobra offense was led again by sophomore Margaret Madison/Savannah, GA, and senior Andrea Manuel/Spartanburg, SC. Madison had 14 kills and 4 blocks in the match, while Manuel had her second double-double of the weekend, with 13 kills and 14 digs. Also helping out the offense for Coker were juniors Courtney Barton/Irmo, SC, with 10 kills and Tara Nelson/Rochester Hills, MI, with 34 assists and 10 digs.

 

Holding down the defensive side for Coker were sophomore Natalie Schembra/Hilton Head, SC, and freshman Kelsey Carlson/Oswego, IL, with 13 and 12 digs respectively.

 

The stat leaders for Converse were Leslie Shain with 15 kills and 22 digs, while Brittany Ojez had 30 assists. Also contributing to Converse’s efforts were Elizabeth Roberds with 3 service aces and Lauren Mueller with 5 blocks.

 

The next match for Coker will be Wednesday, October 26, as they travel to Mount Olive, NC, to face the Mount Olive Trojans at 6:30 p.m. AS for the All-Stars, their next match will be on Monday, October 24, when they host North Greenville College at 7 p.m.
