Hartsville, SC- Coker point, Anderson point, Coker point, Anderson point. That is the way the match between Coker and Anderson played all night. Every time one team would score a point, the other team would come right back and score a point as well. The first game saw the Trojans of Anderson winning the back and forth battle 32-30, but the Cobras rebounded and won the next two games 30-23 and 30-28. Coker would secure their win with a 30-28 win in the fourth and final game.

 

Coker is now 13-12 overall and 12-3 in the CVAC, while Anderson drops to 11-16 overall and 6-7 in the CVAC.

 

Coker’s attack was led by the combination of sophomore Margaret Madison/Savannah, GA, and senior Andrea Manuel/Spartanburg, SC. Madison had 19 kills and 5 blocks, while Manuel had a double-double with 14 kills and 17 digs, and she added 4 services aces on the night. Junior Tara Nelson/Rochester Hill, MI, had 54 assists and 4 blocks on the night, and sophomore Megan Haupt/Summerville, SC, had 14 kills. Helping the Coker defense were freshman Kelsey Carlson/Oswego, IL, and sophomore Natalie Schembra/Hilton Head, SC, who each had 17 and 15 digs respectively.

 

For the Trojans Heather Swain had 18 kills and 11 digs in the match, while Laura Tye had 14 kills. Jessica Patrick gave Anderson 49 assists and 3 blocks, and Maggie Irvin had 17 digs for the Trojans.

 

The Coker Volleyball Team takes to the court again tomorrow, October 22, as they host Converse College at 4 p.m. in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium. Anderson’s next match is also tomorrow, but they will travel to St. Andrews College for a 2 p.m. match.
