Hartsville, SC- The Coker Volleyball Team’s six game winning streak came to an end on Monday night. The visiting Tritons of Eckerd College broke the streak as they won the match in four games 27-30, 30-27, 30-20 and 30-27.

 

In the first game, the Cobras battled back from a six point deficit to tie the game at 27. They would then go on to win the game, but one win is all the Cobras could manage, as the Tritons won the next three games.

 

Coker was led by senior Andrea Manuel/Spartanburg, SC, with 19 kills and 20 digs, while junior Tara Nelson/Rochester Hills, MI, had 14 kills, 22 assists and 14 digs. Sophomores Margaret Madison/Savannah, GA, and Courtney Butrym/Columbia, SC, had 10 kills and 26 assist respectively, while sophomore Natalie Schembra/Hilton Head, SC, and freshman Kelsey Carlson/Oswego, IL, each had 15 and 21 digs respectively.

 

The Tritons were led to victory by freshman Angela White/Virginia Beach, VA, with her 23 kills and two aces. Also helping the Eckerd offense were Leigh Badoyen/Virginia Beach, VA, and Leah Melton/St. Augustine, FL, who had 13 and 10 kills respectively. Junior Alex Arendell/ Cape Coral, FL, set the Triton hitters for 52 assists in the match, while Kelly Morrisroe/Jenson Beach, FL, and Andrea Krystan/ Servena Park, MD, had 15 and 13 digs respectively. Krystan also added five service aces on the night.

 

For the Cobras next match they will travel to face CVAC opponent Queen’s University on Tuesday, October 11. While the Tritons travel back home to take on Newberry College on Thursday, October 13.
