Hartsville, SC- The Coker volleyball team came out strong, but not strong enough, losing to the Mount Olive Trojans Thursday night in women’s collegiate volleyball. The Trojans took the first two sets 30-25 and 30-26, but Coker fought hard and won the third set 34-32. In the fourth set the Trojans came back and defeated the Cobras 30-19.

Sophomore Margaret Madison/Savannah, GA, led the way for the Cobras with 11 kills and 10 digs, while senior Andrea Manuel/Spartanburg, SC, had 9 kills and 11 digs. Megan Haupt/Summerville, SC, contributed 12 kills and Courtney Butyrm/Irmo, SC, gave the Cobras 42 assists.

Leading the way for the Trojans was Heidi Busch/Ft. Wayne, IN, who had 20 kills and 6 blocks, while Anna Luft/ Swansboro, NC, had 16 kills and 9 aces. Also making an impact for Mount Olive was Sam Mitchell/Boyd, WI, with 11 kills and 7 digs.

This match marked the first conference game for both squads, giving Coker a 1-8 overall record and 0-1 in the CVAC, while Mount Olive moves to 3-2 overall, with a 1-0 record in the CVAC. Coker returns to action Saturday, September 10, as they host another CVAC opponent, Belmont Abbey, at 2 p.m. Mount Olive’s next match is on Thursday, September 15, versus CVAC opponent St. Andrews College at 6:30 p.m.
