Coker Women's Track and Field Set to Take on JDL New Year College Kick-Off

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College women's track and field program will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. on Sunday (Jan. 7) to take on the JDL New Year College Kick-Off to spark 2018. In their first event of the season, the Cobras surpassed several school records, and are on their way to breaking more. 

In their first event at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic on Dec. 2, the women's track and field team broke numerous program records.  Noelia Leake put the Cobras on the right foot by setting a new school record in the women's 60-meter race, finishing seventh overall with a time of 7.70 seconds. Leake's time beats her own previous record of 7.78.

Coker's senior leader Darroneshia Lott ran the 800-meter in the time of 2:11.53, placing first overall, setting a new school record.

In the 60-meter hurdle event, Kayla Ruff also broke a Coker record, placing 15th overall in the time of 9.31 seconds.

Tamara McMichael set two records as well on Saturday, one each in the shot put and weight throw events. McMichael became the program leader in the shot put with a throw of 9.84 meters and in the weight throw with a distance of 10.9 meters.

The Coker College women's track and field team will compete at the JDL New Year Kick-Off on Sunday (Jan. 7) beginning at 10 a.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.
