Coker Women's Track & Field Picked to Finish Seventh at SAC Championship

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's track and field team was picked to finish seventh in the 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, the league office announced today. 

Defending SAC champions, Queens, was atop the preseason poll. The Cobras finished eighth in last season's SAC championships and are currently ranked 11th in the Southeast region according to U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)

According to Track and Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS), the Cobras have members ranked in the top-10 of South Atlantic Conference's performance list in 12 of the 17 events.

Noella Leake and Autumn Walters rank second and ninth in the 100-meter dash. Leake's time of 12.42 came at Lenoir-Rhyne, while Walters's time of 12.85 came at the Coach O Coastal Carolina Invitational.

The Cobras have three ranked inside the top-10 in the 200-meters, led by Leake. Her time of 25.38, which came at Lenoir-Rhyne, is tops on the SAC performance list. Briana Nixon ranks eighth, with a time of 26.59, while Walters ranks ninth with a time of 26.69.

Nixon headlines Coker at the 400-meter dash, her time of 59.85 ranks fourth on the performance list. Jalecia Williamson and Lisa Foster rank eighth and tenth with times of 1:01.64 and 1:02.18.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Kaylah Ruff is fourth on the performance list, with a time of 15.11.

The Navy and Gold have six members inside the top-10 of the 400-meter hurdles. Ruff leads the bunch with a time of 1:08.56, which is good enough for second. Charity Snelling sits in the fourth position with a time of 1:09.53. Williamson, Rickii Banks, Tamara McMichael and Karley Weiner round things out, ranking fifth, seventh, eighth and tenth on the performance list.

In the 4x 400-meter relay and 4x 100-meter relay, the Cobras rank second and third.

Snelling is atop the performance list in the women's high jump. Her distance of 1.62 meters came at the Braves Track Classic.

Da'Sha Jobes ranks sixth in the long jump, with a distance of 4.87 meters. Banks's distance of 4.79 meters ranks ninth, while Talicia Murphy ranks 10th with a distance of 4.73 meters. All three performances came at the Braves Track Classic.

In the triple jump, Snelling and Jobes rank inside the top 10. Snelling's distance of 10.54 meters ranks sixth on the performance list, while Jobes's distance of 9.65 meters ranks 10th.

McMichael ranks 10th in both the hammer throw and javelin to round things out for the Cobras. In the hammer, she has posted a distance of 24.26 meters, while her top javelin throw is 28.15 meters.

The Cobras will be back in action on Friday (Mar. 25) when they travel to the Adidas Winthrop Invitational.
