Nixon’s Record-Setting Day Paces Cobras at Braves Track Classic

PEMBROKE, N.C. – It was a day for the record books for the Coker College women's track and field team, as 30 top-10 finishes were tallied, including five first-place finishes. As a team, Coker's 140 team score was good enough for second place.

In the 100-meter, Noella Leake and Autumn Walters registered top-five finishes. Leake came in fourth, with a time of 12.80, while Walters finishes in five with a time of 13.13.

In the 200-meter, Jalecia Williamson and Leake finished in eighth and ninth place. Williamson ran a time of 27.52, while Leake finished with a time of 27.65.

In the 400-meter, Briana Nixon ran a Coker women's track and field and Braves Track Classic record time of 1:00.19. Her performance landed her a first-place finish. Williamson finished in fourth with a time of 1:03.16.

Lisa Foster finished in fifth place in the 800-meter, running time of 2:35.25.

Breanna Sullivan and Vanessa Pina notched top-10 showings in the 1500-meter race. Sullivan came in sixth with a time of 5:32.53, while Pina finishes with a time of 5.45:66.

Mercy Muhuhu recorded a runner-up finish in the 5000-meter. She ran a time of 20:46.13.

In the 100-meter hurdles, Kaylah Ruff also came in second, running a time of 15.88.

The Cobras had four top-10 placers in the 400-meter hurdles, led by the third-place showing of Ruff. She ran a time of 1:10.97. The trio of Charity Snelling, Rickii Banks and Tamara McMichael rounded things out coming in fifth, sixth and seventh place.

The team of Williamson, Walters, Leake and Talicia Murphy notched a runner-up finish in the 4x 100-meter relay.

The Cobras scored a win and a third place finish in the 4x 400-meter relay. The team of Walters, Ruff, Foster and Nixon ran a time of 4:17.16 and picked up the first-place finish.

Snelling, an all-region selection, continued her stellar spring by scoring a win in the high jump. She recorded a distance of 1.62 meters.

The Navy and Gold has three top-four finishes in the long jump. Da'Sha Jobes took home the top spot, recording a distance of 4.87 meters. Banks notched the runner-up slot, with a distance of 4.79, while Murphy came in fourth with a distance of 4.73 meters.

Snelling picked up another win, this one in the triple jump. Her distance of 10.42 meters was good enough for her second win of the day. Jobes came in fourth, with a distance of 9.65 meters.

McMichael came in fifth in the shot put, recording a distance of 9.15 meters.

Erin Chan came in eighth in the discus, with a distance of 16.36 meters.

McMichael came in sixth in the hammer, with a distance of 23.63 meters, while Chan recorded another eighth place showing, with a distance of 23.36 meters.

McMichael and Chan rounded things out for the Cobras, notching fifth and eighth place showings in the javelin. McMichael recorded a distance of 28.15 meters, while Chan had a distance of 16.35 meters.

The Cobras will be back in action tomorrow as they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for the Battle at the Beach.
