Cobras Cruise Past Warriors 9-0

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College women's tennis team cruised past the visiting Southern Wesleyan University Warriors 9-0 on Friday (Feb. 16) afternoon in non-conference action. The Cobras improved to 3-1 with the victory. 

The Navy and Gold began the day by sweeping the Warriors in doubles play. The duo of Jennifer Ruetten and Julia Sorrells toughed out an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles to improve to 3-1 on the year. Next, the tandem of Suzanna Mickey and Jennifer Mezei earned a dominant 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, improving to a perfect 4-0 on the season. The Cobras wrapped up doubles action with Charlotte Clarke and Jenna Gainey earning a decisive 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. The doubles victory bumped the duo's record to 3-1 at No. 3 doubles. 

The Navy and Gold rode their momentum from doubles play into singles action by sweeping the competition once again. Ruetten dug deep for a 5-7, 6-5, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles and Mickey earned a 7-5, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles. Mezei cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the No. 3 spot and Sorrells dominated her opponent for a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 4 singles. Clarke made quick work of her Southern Wesleyan opponent recording a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles and Gainey won by default at the No. 6 spot. Mezei and Mickey improved to 3-1 in singles play after today's victories. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Feb. 22 when they travel to Johnson C. Smith for a 2 p.m. match.
