Cobras Strike Twice Against Shaw in Non-Conference Win

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- On Saturday (Sept. 9) the Coker Cobras struck twice against Shaw University and picked up the 2-0 non-conference victory.  Grayson Chappell and Ashley Hogg both scored to lift the Cobras 2-0 over the Shaw University Bears.

In the 23rd minute of the first half, Coker was given an opportunity for a corner kick. Gaby Sturla took on the responsibility and crossed it in beautifully as Grayson Chappell headed it in the back of the net for her first goal of the match.

Coker applied offensive pressure all day sending 16 shots with 13 on target. Phoebie Eshen led the team in shots with six.

Later in the 84th minute, Hogg was able to beat her defender in a one-on-one encounter and finessed her first goal between the pipes to put the Cobras out in front 2-0.

True freshman goal keeper Samantha Hoffman collected four saves for her second consecutive clean sheet of the season.

The Cobras will return to the Coker Athletic Field again on Sept. 13 for their first SAC conference game, slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
