Cobras Begin Post-Matthew Play with Tusculum Wednesday

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- After being plagued by Hurricane Matthew, the Coker women's soccer team will host the Tusculum Pioneers on Wednesday (Oct. 12) in South Atlantic Conference action.

The Cobras last played on Oct. 5, where they fell 1-0 at South Atlantic Conference foe Wingate. Farrah Brown put one shot on goal, while Shelby Middleton made 11 saves in the contest. The Cobras defense was able to contain a Wingate offense that on the season had averaged over two goals per game.

On the season, Phoebie Eshen leads the Cobras with three goals. Sophomore Shelby Middleton has anchored the Navy and Gold in between the pipes, and is currently 11th individually in the conference in minutes (472:19) and goals against average (1.71), and also tied for fourth in the league in saves with 40.

The Pioneers come into the matchup with a 7-2-2 overall record and a 5-0-1 mark in the SAC. Four players have scored two goals apiece on the season for the Pioneers, while Katja Andersson and Carly Mill have also contributed one assist each. In goal, Miriah Martin has logged all the minutes for Tusculum, and her total of 1046:16 is good for third highest in the conference. She has made a total of 38 saves, pitched three shutouts and owns a save percentage of .826.

Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. at the Coker College athletic field. Tickets for the match are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
