SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Coker women's soccer dropped its season-opening contest 2-1 to Converse College on Thursday (Sept. 1).

The Cobras looked to be heading to the half down 2-0 before Renee Ledesma squared up a free kick and was able to sneak it past Converse's keeper on the near post in the 43rd minute.

Shelby Middleton came on in relief of starter Ashton Knopf (0-1) in the 28th minute. Knopf made two saves in her first start of the season. Middleton was able to keep the Cobras in the game off the bench, not allowing a goal while stopping eight shots.

As a team the Cobras put together 10 shots and totaled four corner kick opportunities.

The navy and gold will take the pitch again on Saturday (Sept. 3) to take on the visiting St. Andrews Knights. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Coker College soccer fields. Tickets for the match are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
