Mount Olive Narrowly Defeats Coker 2-1

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker women's soccer team nearly upset the regionally ranked No. 9 Trojans of Mount Olive on Tuesday night, but a Mount Olive goal in the final 13 minutes of play gave the Trojans the 2-1 victory over the Cobras.

The win improves Mount Olives record to 7-1-1 overall and 6-0 in Conference Carolinas play, while Coker drops to 1-11 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

Mount Olive was first to strike when Carlee Bock (Beaufort, N.C.) sent a beautiful pass through the Coker defense to Tia Rose (Beaulavilla, N.C.) who found the back of the net to make it 1-0 in favor of the Trojans.

Coker earned the equalizer off a penalty kick from Sarah Rountree (Plantation, Fla.) three minutes later in  the 37th minute.

The score remained tied at one through the end of the first and into the second half until Lindsey Stanley (Eastover, N.C.) netted the game-winner in the 77th minute with an assist from Becky Sanzsole (Kitchener, Ontario).

Haley Gibson (Chesterfield, S.C.) had eight saves in the net for the Cobras and Mount Olive's Lyndsey McIntyre (Leesburg, Va.) had just one save.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face Converse College in a Conference Carolinas match at 4:30 p.m.
