Coker Women Come Up Short Against King, 3-2

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker women's soccer team scored a pair of second half goals, but the Cobras came up just short of a victory on Wednesday night, losing to King College 3-2.

King jumped out to an early 1-0 lead with a goal from Jamie Grigsby in the first minute and a half of the match. The Cobras settled into the game and held down the defense for the remainder of the first half.

Three minutes into the second half Coker netted the equalizer when Millie Rogers (Hartsville, S.C.) netted her first collegiate goal with an assist from Rachel Solomon (Bluffton, S.C.). King's Morgan Shelton gave the Tornado their second lead of the match with a goal in the 57th minute.

Coker battled back and evened the score once again, this time it was off a header from Morgan Hartline (Irmo, S.C.) off a corner kick from Solomon.

In the 77th minutes Shelton put home the game winner with a helper from Devon Shanklin.

Haley Gibson (Chesterfield, S.C.) made six saves in the goal for the Cobras.

The next match for the Cobras will be their 2011 Homecoming match on Saturday against Pfeiffer University. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
