Hartsville, S.C. – A hat trick by Kathryn Friedmann (Hendersonville, TN) and a pair of goals by Bridget Clark (Irmo, SC) lead the Coker women’s soccer team to a 5-0 shutout against the Valkyries of Converse College in a Conference Carolinas soccer match on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Lady Cobras to 3-4 overall and 2-1 overall, while Converse falls to 0-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference.

Coker got the scoring going early with a goal from Friedmann with an assist from Amanda McPhail (Irmo, SC) just three minutes into the game. In the 20th minute Clark netted her first of the game with some help from Laura Bedenbaugh (Hartsville, SC) and Friedmann. A minute later, Clark stuck again this time some assistance from Jessi Ingle (Columbia, SC).

Converse was able to hold the Lady Cobras through the rest of the first half, but in the 55th minute Friedmann was on the attack for her second goal, with a shot from just inside the 18 yard mark. Friedmann capped off her hat trick with her third and final goal in the 71st minute, an 18 yard blast from the right side of the penalty box.

Coker out shot the Valkyries 23-4, with Converse goalkeeper, Ashley Mercuri recording nine saves in the match.

The Lady Cobras return to the field on October 1, as they host the Limestone College Saints at 5:00 p.m.
