Cobras Split Home Duals on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University wrestling team split its home dual matches on Saturday (Jan. 18), defeating Lander University 27-9 before falling to Colorado Mesa 31-13. 

No. 6/11/11 Ramon Correa began the day with a 7-1 decision over Cameron Coffman at 285 pounds, before John Watts won by fall in 1:51 over Austin Ross to push Coker's lead to 9-0. Chris Poland kept things going for Coker with an 8-5 decision over Williams Olivas, before Zach van Alst gutted out a 3-2 decision over Elijah Gray at 141 pounds to extend Coker's lead to 15-0. Matthew Kieta picked up a 10-3 decision over Chandler Smalley at 149, before Ryan Camp kept Coker's shutout intact with a 4-0 decision over Tyler Dahlgren at 157 pounds. Lander would pick up a win by decision at 165 pounds, before Bret Shurina would win by decision 9-4 over Brice Harkness at 174 pounds. Corey Perkins-Willett padded Coker's lead with a 10-7 decision over Myles Stark, before Lander would earn a win by fall at 197 pounds to close out the match. 

Colorado Mesa built a 9-0 lead over Coker through two bouts, before Omar Armengol got the Cobras on the board with a 19-9 major decision over Dylan Keeney at 133 pounds. Mesa picked up another win by decision at 149 pounds, before Camp posted his second win of the day with a 5-1 decision at 157 over Erik Contreras, before Mesa would extend its lead further in the next few bouts. Corey Perkins-Willett would close things out earning a win by forfeit at 197 pounds to set the match at its final score. 

 The Cobras (5-1, 1-0 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) are back on the mat on Thursday (Jan. 23) to face Limestone in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action. The match begins at 7:00 p.m. from the DeLoach Center, with video available at www.cokercobras.com.
