Coker Wrestling Recognized Super Regional, National Individual Rankings and NWCA Preseason Coaches' Poll

FULL NWCA RANKINGS

MANHEIM, Pa. - Coker University wrestling has been recognized in the 2019-20 Super Region II individual rankings, as well as the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) national individual rankings and the NWCA Coaches' Poll. The rankings were released on Wednesday (Oct. 30). 

Sophomore John Watts is ranked fifth in the super region at 125 pounds, after posting a 19-8 record with two wins each by fall, technical fall and major decision. 

Senior Chris Poland is ranked second at 133 pounds in the super region, posting a 13-9 record at 133 pounds last season with one win by fall and two wins by major decision. 

Sophomore Alex Braden was slated fifth at 141 pounds in the super region, winning nine matches a season ago with five wins by fall and one win by major decision. 

Sophomore Alex Miller was ranked sixth in the super region at 149 pounds, posting a 7-2 record a season ago with three wins by fall, one by technical fall and one by major decision. 

Sophomore Corey Christie was slated fifth in the super region at 165 pounds, after going 14-11 last year with two wins by fall and two wins by major decision. 

 Junior Jhavon Innocent enters the super regional rankings at No. 3 at 174 pounds, after joining the Cobras from Sullivan Community College where he was a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national qualifier and also a NJCAA All-American. 

Junior Corey Perkins-Willett entered the super region rankings at 184 pounds at No. 6, after transferring in from Muskegon Community College where he was a MCCAA champion as well as a district champion. 

Senior Marco Mason, Jr. was slated sixth at 197 pounds in the super region, while winning six matches a season ago. 

Redshirt junior Ramon Correa was tabbed No. 2 at 285 pounds in the super region, and also ranked No. 10 in the NWCA national individual rankings. The West Olive, Mich. Native posted a 14-7 record last season with five wins by fall and one win by major decision. Correa nearly missed out on All-American honors a season ago, posting one win at the NCAA Division II National Championships.

The Cobras also received votes in the NWCA preseason coaches' poll. 

Coker opens its 2019-20 campaign next Sunday (Nov. 3) at Averett, with a non-conference dual slated for 1:00 p.m. Video for the match will be available at www.cokercobras.com.
