Cobras Wrap Up Season at Super Region Two Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Coker College wrestling team wrapped up their 2016-17 season at the Super Region Two Championships this weekend (Feb. 24-25) at the University of Indianapolis. The Navy and Gold had Jordon Tague (165 pounds), Jamal Lackey (174 pounds), and Tyvon Leacock (285 pounds) advance to the second day of competition. However, all three wrestlers lost their matches in the final day of wrestling to be eliminated from the tournament.

Tague posted a 1-2 record in the Super Region II Championships. After a first round bye, the Coker 165 pounder upset the No. 11 wrestler in the nation, John Glunt of Belmont Abbey, by an 8-7 decision. Tague and Glunt were tied 6-6 on the scoreboard in the third period, but Glunt accumulated over a minute of riding time and technically led Tague by one point. With time expiring in the match, Tague hit a well-timed headlock to secure the exciting 8-7 decision. Tague dropped his next two matches and was eliminated from the tournament.

Jamal Lackey finished with a 2-2 record in the Super Region II Championships. Lackey dropped his first match by decision, but stormed back with two falls in the consolation bracket. The Coker 174 pounder earned his first fall in 2:19 over Seth Bridgeman of Belmont Abbey and his second fall in 2:25 over Joey Mammolenti of King. Lackey dropped his next match and was eliminated from the tournament.

Tyvon Leacock posted a 2-2 record in the Super Region II Championships. Leacock started his tournament strong with a 12-9 decision over Bret Winters of Shorter. Next, Leacock fell to the No. 4 heavyweight in the nation, but bounced back in his consolation match with a tough 3-2 decision over Daniel Bland of Limestone. Leacock fell in his next consolation match to be eliminated from the tournament.

In addition to Tague, Lackey, and Leacock winning matches, Jacob Haydock and Jordon Garlow both won a match in the tournament.
