Cobras Host Crusaders in Arts Meets Art Dual

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College wrestling team will host conference opponent Belmont Abbey on Wednesday (Dec. 7) at 7 p.m. in Watson Theatre for the Art Meets Art dual. The event will count as a Transformations credit. Live stats and video can be found at www.cokercobras.com.

The Art Meets Art event will begin at 6 p.m. with collaborative performances from Coker dance majors and Cobra wrestlers. The dual meet between the Cobras and Crusaders will follow the performances at 7 p.m. and will include a dance performance after the 157 pound match.

The Cobras head into the dual meet against Belmont Abbey sporting a 1-1 dual meet record with a dominant victory over St. Andrews and a loss to division I opponent, The Citadel.

Coker boasts four wrestlers ranked within their respective weight classes in the Super Region II poll.

Freshman Bret Shurina is ranked eighth at 149 pounds and leads the team in wins with eight. . Shurina earned a second place finish at the King Open back on Nov. 20 and a third place finish at the UNC Pembroke Open on Nov. 5.

Sophomore Jordon Tague is ranked eighth at 157 pounds, with six wins on the year. Two of Tague's wins have come by fall, and he also collected a second place finish at the King Open (Nov. 20). He also picked up a third place finish at the UNC Pembroke Open on Nov. 5.

Senior Rashad Cunningham is ranked fourth at 165 pounds, with a perfect 6-0 record on the season so far. Two of Cunningham's wins have come by fall, and one by major decision. The senior won the 165 pound weight class at the King Open (Nov. 20), picking up two wins. Cunningham also went 4-0 and captured the 157 pound championship at the UNC Pembroke Open on Nov. 5.

Senior Jamal Lackey is ranked fifth at 174 pounds, and is second on the team in wins with seven. He has earned three wins by fall and two by major decision on the year, and he grappled to a second place finish at the King Open back on Nov. 20. The senior also captured a third place finish at the UNC Pembroke Open on back on Nov. 5.

The Crusaders head into tomorrow's match with a 3-4 dual meet record and two wrestlers ranked in their individual weight classes in the Super Region II poll.

Greg Hilliard leads the way for the Crusaders at 157 pounds with a team best eight wins. He is also ranked sixth in the Super Region II rankings. Belmont Abbey's final wrestler ranked in Super Region II is 165 pounder Jake Glunt.

Tickets for the Art Meets Art event are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
