Coker Wrestling Ranked No. 8 in Super Region II; Six Cobras Ranked Individually

HARTSVILLE, S.C, - The Coker Cobra wrestling team moved to No. 8 in Super Region II according to the latest NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches' Poll released on Wednesday (Dec. 30). Wisconsin-Parkside took the top spot in the poll, followed by Lake Erie and Tiffin.

Coker is the second highest ranked team in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Newberry is the top ECAC team at No. 7, followed by Coker in eighth and UNC Pembroke at No. 9.

In addition to the team ranking, six Cobras are ranked in their individual weight classes. Senior Derrick Nelson is the top ranked Cobra, picking up a No. 2 ranking at 133 pounds. Freshman Jordon Tague earned a No. 3 ranking at the 149-pound weight class and senior Charlie Huff is ranked fifth at 125 pounds.

Rounding out the ranked Cobras are a trio of No. 6 rankings; freshman Shabo Gorial at the 157-pound weight class, senior Derrick Booth at 174-pounds and sophomore Luis Peguero at the 184-pound division.

The Cobras return to the mat for their first match-up of 2016 on Saturday (Jan. 2) at No. 7 Newberry. The ECAC match will begin at 2 p.m. at Newberry's Eleazer Arena. Live coverage of the match will be available at www.cokercobras.com.
