Cobras Rack up Honors at Pembroke Classic

PEMBROKE, N.C.- The Coker wrestling team made its 2015-16 debut at the Pembroke Classic on Saturday (Nov. 7).

The Cobras had seven wrestlers place within their weight classes including Derrick Nelson winning at 133 pounds and Jordon Tague at 149 pounds. The senior posted a 4-0 mark on the day including two wins by fall. Senior Charlie Huff (125 pounds) finished fifth, earning a 5-2 mark on the day. Tague won his weight class via upset beating returning All-American and No. 4 Scott Bosak of Belmont Abbey.

Rashad Cunningham placed third at 149, going 4-1 with one win by technical fall. Derrick Booth finished in second at 174 pounds losing 7-3 in the finals in his only defeat of the day. Austin Akins recorded a fourth place finish going 4-2 in the 285 pound weight class. Freshman Temaris Dixon also finished fifth at 197 pounds. 

The Cobras will hit the mat in their home opener on Wednesday (Nov. 11) when they host St. Andrews in its first ever "Art Meets Art" match at Watson Theater at Elizabeth Boatwright Performing Arts Center. The match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
