Laxton's Season Comes to a Close at National Championship

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Travis Laxton's quest for a national championship came to an end on Friday (Mar. 13) at the NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championship in St. Louis, Mo. Laxton went 1-2 in the tournament, falling just short of achieving All-American status.

In the opening round of the tournament, Laxton fell to Tim Prescott of St. Cloud State, 17-2. Then in the first round of the wrestle back bracket, Laxton picked up a 9-6 decision over Dustin Reed of Newman University.

In the final match of the day, Laxton went the distance with Dustin Warner of Wheeling Jesuit. With the score deadlocked at 2-all after regulation, the match went into overtime. There, Warner was able to pick up five unanswered points to earn the 7-2 decision.

Laxton finishes the season with a record of 24-7, becoming the second Cobra in two years to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championship.
