Coker's Laxton Ready for the National Stage

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – On Friday (Mar. 13), Coker College wrestler Travis Laxton will begin his quest for an NCAA National Championship. Laxton will take the mat at the 2015 NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championship in St. Louis, Mo. in the 125-pound weight class.

A senior from Pouchers Corner, Fla., Laxton has had an outstanding season for the Cobras. He enters the national tournament with a record of 23-5, including winning the Citadel Open, placing second at the Midwest Classic and capturing second place at the NCAA Midwest Super Regional.

Laxton earned the tournament as the No. 3 seed in the 125-pound weight class, but that does not mean he has an easy road to the championship. He will have to take on the No. 4 seed, Tim Prescott from St. Cloud State in the opening round. The winner will then advance to face the winner of the No. 1 seed and No. 16 seed match in the quarterfinals.

Live coverage of the tournament begins at 11 a.m. on Friday.  Links to live stats and video can be found at www.cokercobras.com.
