Coker's Laxton Takes Second at Regional, Advances to NCAA National Championship

PEMBROKE, N.C.  – Coker Cobra senior wrestler Travis Laxton placed second in the 125-pound weight class at the NCAA Division II Midwest Super Regional on Saturday (Feb. 28).

After advancing to day two, Laxton took the mat against Trung Duong of Newberry College in the semifinal match. The two wrestlers battled to a 10-10 tie after regulation. Laxton proceeded to take down Duong in the sudden victory round, winning the match 12-10 and advancing to the 125-pound final.

Laxton then took on Joshua Kieffer of the University of Indianapolis in the championship match. After a hard fought match, Laxton lost the match 4-1. The loss gave Laxton a second place finish.

By placing second Laxton advances to the NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championship. The championship will begin on March 13 in St. Louis, Mo.
