DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Coker Cobra wrestling team completed the dual match portion of its schedule on Sunday (Feb. 15) by taking on a pair of NCAA Division I opponents, Campbell University and Davidson College. The Cobras blew past Campbell 44-4, but fell just short against Davidson, losing 22-18.
Against Campbell the Cobras were victorious in nine of the ten weight classes. Included in the victories were a 7-1 decision by Tristan Sommer at 157, as well as a 4-0 decision by Derrick Booth at 165. Rocco Hladney had an impressive 23-6 tech fall at 174-pounds and Alex Green picked up a 7-3 decision at the 285-pound weight class.
In the Davidson match, Rashad Cunningham pulled out a 3-1 sudden victory in the 149-pound weight class, while Sommer and Booth each recorded their second wins of the day at 157 and 165. John Allen Griswold also picked up a win at the 285-pound weight class with a 4-1 decision.
The Cobras will now prepare for the NCAA Division II Super Region Two tournament. The tournament will be hosted by UNC Pembroke Feb. 28- March 1.
