Nail-Biting Win for Coker in Early Season Match-up

Hartsville, SC - The Coker University Women's Lacrosse Team claimed their first victory of the season against Converse on Saturday (Feb. 18).

The Cobras and Valkyries started off their game at a slow pace, playing head to head in the first quarter. Although Converse was the first to land a ball in the cage, Coker was quick to answer and gained their first goal in the final 30 seconds (Hailey Morgan). Converse went into the second quarter up 2-1 as they scored their second goal of the game with three seconds left. Despite an early lead from Converse, Coker fired back with two goals from Madeline Hart and Hailey Morgan (assist from Madeline Hart), landing Coker in the lead. In response, Converse shot back with two goals goals, one being in a man-up opportunity. A heated game between the Cobras and Valkyries, it continued to go back and forth, Coker entering the fourth quarter up by three. 

Coker on an offensive rampage, rattled off three consecutive goals from Hailey Morgan, Abby Gross, and Alli Green. This momentum carried the Cobras even when Converse battled, within reaching distance of taking the lead back. Coker was able to shut down the game with a final goal from Amariah Lawson (assist from Abby Gross) in the last six minutes. 

Zoe Cotheran played the entirety of the game, with 11 saves. The freshman from Spartanburg, SC would claim her first victory of her collegiate career.
