Women's Lacrosse Honors Senior Class, Falls to Cavaliers

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University women's lacrosse team celebrated the careers of seven members of their graduating class, but came up short in their season finale against UVA Wise by a score of 15-7.

The Cavaliers took an early lead and held a 6-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The lone goal came from Annabelle Chuilli on an assist from senior Meagan Gallagher. The Cobras added one more in the second quarter on a goal from senior Makenzie Stroup on a helper from Abby Gross. UVA Wise took a 9-2 lead into the halftime break.

Coker struck first in the third quarter when Gallagher scored on an assist from fellow classmate Hannah Shuren. Shuren added a goal of her own later in the quarter on an assist from defender Alli Green after Green's slaloming run down the field from her defensive position. Another member of the senior class, Olivia Fladung found the back of the net on another Gross assist to end the third with a score of 12-5. Gallagher scored twice more in the fourth quarter to bring her goal total to three on the day. Her fourth quarter goals were assisted by Shuren and Gross. The valiant effort by the Cobras would not be enough as the Cavaliers took the decision.

Gallagher led the way offensively with her hat trick and assist, while Shuren contributed a goal and two assists to go along with Gross's three helpers. Amariah Lawson led the squad with seven ground balls and four draw controls. Junior goalkeeper Abby Kellner eclipsed the program career saves record, as she made 18 stops in net. Her career total now stands at 317.

This concludes the regular season for the Coker women's lacrosse team. Continuing coverage can be found at www.cokercobras.com.
