Women's Lacrosse Defeated by No. 23 Saints

GAFFNEY, S.C. - The Coker women's lacrosse team fell to No. 23 Limestone University on Saturday (Apr 16) by a scoreline of 23-9.

Amariah Lawson opened the scoring for the Cobras after an early Limestone goal to even things at 1-1 after just 45 seconds of play. The Saints then went on a run, scoring six consecutive goals to increase their lead to 7-1. Olivia Fladung's goal with 4:19 to play in the first quarter put a halt to the scoring streak. Annabelle Chuilli added one more goal before the quarter break to make the score 9-3 after one.

The Saints continued their hot play, out-scoring Coker nine to two in the second quarter. Hannah Shuren scored her first of the game and Lawson scored on a Fladung assist to round out the scoring in the opening half as the score stood at 16-5 at the halftime break.

Limestone opened the scoring to the second half, but the Cobras responded with three unanswered goals from Abby Gross, Chuilli, and Bailey Johnson with Shuren assisting on two of the three to cut into the Saints' lead. The Saints turned up the defensive pressure in the fourth quarter as they held the Cobras to just one goal, scored by Amanda Arguello, and took the decision 23-9.

Lawson and Chuilli scored two goals apiece to lead the offensive effort, while five others recorded a goal. Shuren's two assists were the game high total for the Cobras to go along with Fladung's helper. Lawson also tallied eight draw controls to put her over the century mark for her career. Junior goalkeeper Abby Kellner registered eight saves in net to bring her within seven of the program all-time record.

The Cobras will wrap-up the regular season with Senior Day against UVA-Wise on Saturday (Apr 23). First draw is scheduled for 11am, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
