Women's Lacrosse Drops Battle to Catawba

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker women's lacrosse team battled all afternoon but came up short in their South Atlantic Conference match against Catawba College on Wednesday (Apr 13) afternoon by a 17-9 margin.

The Cobras jumped out front with a goal from Annabelle Chuilli five minutes into the first quarter on an assist from Olivia Fladung. Catawba responded with four unanswered goals until Amariah Lawson's tally put an end to the run and made the score 4-2 after one quarter.

The second period was high scoring, as the two squads combined to score ten times. Meagan Gallagher found the back of the net twice in the quarter, once from an Abby Gross assist and another time thanks to a nice pass from Fladung on her second helper of the afternoon. Chuilli also recorded her second goal of the game during the quarter to run the score to 11-5 at the halftime break.

Coker stepped up defensively in the third quarter, allowing only one Catawba goal. The Cobras put two goals on the scoreboard thanks to free position goals from both Chuilli and Gallagher. Lawson added her second of the day just thirty seconds into the fourth quarter, but Catawba would put up three consecutive before Meagan Gallagher answered with her fourth goal of the day. This goal was assisted by fellow senior Hannah Shuren and put Shuren at the 150 point watermark for her career.

Gallagher led the way offensively with her four goals. Chuilli added a hat trick of her own and Lawson found the back of the net twice. Fladung's three assists were also crucial to the Cobras' play in the offensive zone. Abby Kellner made 11 saves in net and scooped up three ground balls.

The Cobras return to action on Saturday (Apr. 16) when they travel to Gaffney, S.C. to take on #23 Limestone University. Live video and statistics can be found at www.cokercobras.com
