Cobras Drop Road Contest to Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, TN - The Coker women's lacrosse team dropped its South Atlantic Conference match to the Pioneers of Tusculum University on Saturday (Apr 9) by a score of 21-7.

The Pioneers took the early lead as they scored the first six goals of the contest. The Cobras struck back just before the end of the quarter on goals from Annabelle Chuilli and Meagan Gallagher to make it 6-2 after one period of play. Gallagher added another goal in the second quarter on an assist from Hannah Shuren before Shuren put in a goal of her own, assisted by Olivia Fladung. Abby Gross rounded out the first half scoring on a helper from Madeline Hart. The score stood at 12-5 at the half.

Tusculum came out of the halftime break and ratcheted up their defensive pressure as they outscored the Cobras 7-0 in the third stanza of play. Chuilli and Amariah Lawson each added a score in the fourth quarter on two Madeline Hart assists, but the Pioneers were too much to overcome and took the victory 21-7.

Gallagher and Chuilli each had two goals to lead the offensive effort for the Cobras. Shuren, Gross, and Lawson all had one score as well. Madeline Hart had three assists while Gross, Fladung, and Shuren each contributed one helper. Shuren's two points on the afternoon puts her at 149 for her career. Goalkeeper Abby Kellner recorded nine saves in the losing effort.

The Cobras return to action on Wednesday (Apr 13) when they host Catawba College. First draw is scheduled for 3pm, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
