Cobras Come Up Short at Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Coker women's lacrosse team came up short in their Wednesday (Mar. 16) afternoon game against South Atlantic Conference foe Newberry by a margin of 16-8.

The Wolves jumped out to a large lead in the first half, as the score sat at 12-1 at the halftime intermission. The lone first half goal for the Cobras came off the stick of Hannah Shuren

The Cobras came out focused in the second half and outscored the Wolves 7-4 during the second period of play. Annabelle Chuilli, Meagan Gallagher, and Bailey Johnson all found the back of the net during the third quarter. Coker shut Newberry out in the fourth quarter with a stifling defense led by Alli Green. The Cobras ended the game on a four goal run, with scores coming from Abby Gross, Gallagher, Johnson, and Amariah Lawson. The comeback effort would come up short however and Newberry took the win.

Hannah Shuren led the way with three assists and a goal on the afternoon. Shuren and Emma Rhines each had two ground balls to lead the Cobras. Goalkeeper Abby Kellner added to her South Atlantic Conference leading saves tally with 10 for the day, bringing her season total to 98.
